D.C. AndersonD.C. ANDERSON taught a master class for our students on November 10, 2006 while in Albuquerque with the national tour of Phantom of the Opera (Monsieur Andre) D.C.’s credits include other national tours of Martin Guerre, and The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby.  His regional credits include: Steppenwolf Theatre (The Ballad of Little Jo), Northlight Theatre (Three Postcards), Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival Theatre Company member, the Guthrie Theatre (Martin Guerre). For television he has appeared in Lady Blue and over 60 commercials. As a cabaret singer/songwriter, D.C. is the recipient of a Bistro Award and several MAC nominations.   Visit www.dcanderson.net to listen to selections from his solo CDs.

La TatiFlamenco master “La Tati” was in residence in the Department of Theatre and Dance from November 9-22, 2005, teaching intermediate and advanced students as well as setting a new choreographic work on “Alma Flamenca”, UNM’s pre-professional performance ensemble.  A native of Madrid, Fasncisca Sadornil Ruiz,“La Tati,” has been performing professionally since the age of twelve. She went on her first European tour with the Festival Flamenco Gitano at the age of fifteen performing with such greats as Paco de Lucia, and Jose Menese among many others. She has worked and taught at the Ballet Nacional España and performed as a guest dance with Luisillo’s Teatro de la Danza where she toured Africa, Asia, and Australia.  She has visited the U.S. several times with well-received performance of La Cumbre Flamenca and in the late 1980’s she founded her own company.  Her company’s production of Herejía de la Llama and Madri Jere were praised for their richness of ideas and innovation as well as for the brilliance of her interpretation.  La Tati is one of the most acclaimed female flamenco dancers in Spain.  She currently teaches at Amor de Díos, a flamenco dance school in Madrid.

This residency was made possible by funding from Tobial Duran of the Center for Regional Studies, Cheo Torres, Vice President for Student Affairs, and the Department of Music as well as the Department of Theatre and Dance.

Elana GreeenfieldElana Greenfield, established contemporary playwright and Whiting award winner, was a guest artist with the Dramatic Writing Program at UNM during the Fall of 2005 and 2006. She taught Dramatic Writing I for MFA Dramatic Writing students, as well as a course entitled “The Contemporary Dramatic Imagination” which included both undergraduates and MFA students. As part of the 2006 Words Afire Festival she spoke after a staged reading of her new play How They Made the Movie/transiberiada. The reading featured members of the Tricklock Company. 

Ms. Greenfield, formerly Director of Artistic Programs at New Dramatists in New York, is currently the Acting Director of the Arts in Context Program at the New School’s Eugene Lang College. She also teaches at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts Dramatic Writing Program. Her book At the Damascus Gate:  Short Hallucinations was recently published by Green Integer Press, her play Nine Come was published (May 2006) in New Downtown Now,  An Anthology of New Theater from Downtown New York, published by University of Minnesota Press.

Sir Ben KingsleyWhile in Albuquerque filming the crime thriller Suspect Zero in 2002, Sir Ben Kingsley conducted a master class with UNM acting students coaching scenes from Shakespeare. One of England's most respected stage actors, Ben Kingsley became internationally famous after his Oscar-winning performance in the 1982 film Gandhi. In addition to his work in film and television, he has appeared in numerous stage productions in England and the U.S.
