Dramatic Writing Program

Dr. BobRobert Hartung was a beloved teacher and artist in the Department of Theatre & Dance.  Dr. “Bob,” as he was often called, came to the Department in the early 1970’s from a career in the professional theatre and television. When he retired in 1989, he left a remarkable artistic record. During his last ten years at UNM he focused on dramatic writing, inventing the precursor to Words Afire with his own Summerfest. To honor Bob’s achievements, the Department created a fund raising effort to create a million dollar endowment for a program in dramatic writing.  We were very proud and more than a little stunned to state that through a combination of gifts in hand and future gifts that we reached that goal.

A gift helps us sustain a program, a space for new voices to develop that are creating insight into our times and to ways of seeing how we live, the bargains we make, the price we pay for our dreams, our desires, our need to connect. Contributors to the Robert Hartung Endowed Dramatic Writing Program will receive recognition in the Words Afire Program Booklet acknowledging them as valued supporters of our program as well as invitations to special events. Please join our efforts to support the emerging writers Dramatic Writing Program at UNM!
