Children’s Theatre and Dance Tours

Schedules allowing, the Department produces a touring production of a play to elementary and middle schools in the greater Albuquerque area performed by Theatre students. These plays are directed by UNM faculty or qualified students in Theatre Education under faculty supervision.  Productions have included published scripted plays (Calabasas Street by Jose Cruz Gonzales), plays developed by the director with the actors based on poetry, folktales, and children’s writing, and more recently, plays written by our own students, like the 2009 school tour show,  A Fish Tale by UNM undergraduate student, James Blessing pictured below. Like most of our tour shows, this play was appropriate for children in grades K-5, with a meaningful story featuring highly physical performances, and full of color, humor, and action, that captured the attention of young audiences and their teachers. The Spring 2009 School Tour show was A Fish Tale by undergraduate playwriting student James Blessing.  This lively puppet production toured to 23 elementary schools in the Albuquerque area.  The story was about three young fish who got separated from their school and had numerous challenges and adventures before finding their way home. This highly physical performance is full of humor, action, and music and lasts under an hour. The cost is $75 per performance with discounts for Title I schools.
Performances can be booked on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from Mar. 4-Apr. 24.
