Letter from the Chair

Dear Students, Alumni, and Friends:

Welcome to the Department of Theatre and Dance in the College of Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico.  Nestled between the Rio Grande and the scenic Sandia mountains, the UNM campus sprawls with the culture and diversity characteristic of the southwest.

The Department’s world-class faculty offers students applied experience in all facets of the Performing Arts for stage and screen including: acting, directing, writing, design, history and criticism, dance performance and choreography, and theatre education. In addition, the department’s partner in residence, Tricklock Company, offers students a unique global perspective through their Revolutions International Theatre Festival and student workshops. 

Our mission is to provide our students with contemporary training in state of the art facilities in order to be competitive in their respective fields.  We encourage students to explore traditional as well as experimental and controversial subjects through both our curriculum and our production season.  The Department of Theatre and Dance is committed to academic excellence and to providing a venue for students to discover and follow their passion.
