ADN-RN Program
UNM-Taos will offer a 2 year Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Program. Upon completion of the program, the student will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN). Listed below are the program admission requirements, pre-requisites, program coursework and contact information.
Admission and General Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED; computer literacy is required.
- A current student attending UNM-Taos or a transfer student in good standing.
- Completed general requirements and prerequisites with an overall GPA of 2.5 or better, and no less than a letter grade of C in any course.
- Complete high school chemistry or CHEM 111, with a C or better, within the last 5 years.
- Complete high school biology 123/124L with a C or better, within the last 5 years.
- Passing grade in Math 120 or on the COMPASS test.
- Current CPR card for health care providers through an American Heart Association care provider, Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certificate within the last five years.
- The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) will be utilized as the Nursing admission test. Areas of testing will be Reading, Math, Science, English and Language Use. If the student does not pass the admission test (TEAS), the student may take the exam one additional time (total of 2 attempts). There will be a requirement of a 50% percentile score in Reading and Math in order to pass.
- Official transcripts submitted with program application.
- Background check, fingerprinting and urinalysis drug screening upon acceptance to the program.
- 3 letters of reference, one from a current or former employer and one from an instructor. 2 from an instructor if there is not an employment history. Areas to address are critical thinking, leadership, science, awards/honors.
- Physical and current immunizations upon program acceptance.
- Personal interview required as part of the application process.
- All science and math courses need to be completed within the last 5 years.
- Completing the admission requirements makes the applicant eligible to apply to the UNM-Taos competitive ADN Nursing Program, but does not assure admission.
Students with a previous degree will be evaluated individually.
