We're changing our name to FoodPrint NM.  Our new name combines "foodshed" and "ecological footprint" to highlight our mission to cultivate the local foodshed in a sustainable fashion.

Acute food insecurity puts one in six New Mexicans at risk for not having  their next meal.

Following from the Climate Change Advisory Group report, Governor Richardson's Executive Order 2006 no. 69 calls for local, organic food to keep 11 million metric tons CO2 equivalent out of the atmosphere through 2020.

Approach:

Develop the New Mexico foodshed (the area within 300 mile radius of urban centers) such that production, processing and distribution are accomplished using solar and wind power.

Organization:

Alliance for the Carbon-neutral Foodshed formed in 2007 includes stakeholders to address key bottlenecks in development of the foodshed.
