As late as 2005 New Mexico had just one LEED certified structure.  In a few short years, thanks to state and municipal policies and heroic efforts within the architecture and planning sector, greener buildings are popping up on campus.  Read the latest about the new 15,867 square foot, LEED Gold wing of the biology building and 31 other projects over $500,000 that are leading the way.

Just as your body replaces cells every day to give you a completely new set of tissues every 9 years or so, the built environment does the same.  Buildings have a turnover time of 50 years which allows green retrofits, combined with new buildings, to achieve Architecture 2030's ultimate goal of carbon neutral buildings within the lifetime of most college students.
