How to Clean Your Apartment

We Make It Easy for You!

You can check out brooms, dustpans, mops, and vacuums at Hokona, Coronado, and SRC desks. You can also get FREE trash bags at the desks. Housekeeping staff cleans only public areas; you and your apartment-mates must clean your apartment

You must provide cleaning products. Reminder, please do not mix cleaning products. Make sure you read the labels! We recommend bringing:

  • glass cleaner
  • non-abrasive cleanser
  • green scrubbers
  • sponges
  • furniture polish

Once a Week

  • Sweep and/or vacuum your apartment floor.
  • Empty the trash.
  • Dust windowsills, window coverings, lamps, and furniture when needed.
  • Mop your bathroom and kitchen tile floors.
  • Clean your bathroom(s):
    • Rubber gloves and eye protection are recommended.
    • Toilet: flush the toilet with the lid down, apply toilet bowl cleaner, and let stand for a few minutes.
    • Shower: apply cleaner from the top and work down to shower basin removing dirt, scum, and water deposits.
    • Return to Toilet: using scrub brush, scrub and flush.
    • Wipe down the outside lid, bowl, and backside of toilet.
    • Clean your bathroom sink with wipe-on or spray cleaner (not abrasive cleaners/scrubbers).
    • Clean all glass mirrors and wall tile with appropriate towels/rags.
    • Do not flush paper towels, disposable wipes, or rags down your toilet.

Daily: Clean Your Kitchen

Rubber gloves and eye protection are recommended.
  • Empty trash at least every other day.
  • Clean your kitchen sink appropriate cleansers (do not use abrasive cleaners/scrubbers).
  • Wipe down counters and stove.
  • Keep your personal kitchen cabinet clean.
  • Clean refrigerator as needed (keep food in plastic containers).
  • Clean oven and stovetop burners as needed.
