Safety Reminders
  • Hall Security The lobby perimeter doors are locked each night at 7:00 p.m. Your key will open these doors and the other building doors. If your guests arrive after the doors are locked, they can call you from the exterior phones located around the buildings. Please don't prop open perimeter doors. The exterior phones also serve as pre-dialed emergency phones (red button) that will connect you directly with Campus Police.
  • Resident Advisor (RA) on Duty There is one R.A. on duty each night from 7:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. to handle emergencies in your residence hall. Their name and number are posted in the lobby or courtyard. You can also call the SRC 24-hour Desk at (505) 277-9203.
  • Emergency Call Box System There are Emergency Call Boxes located throughout the residence halls. Push and hold the red button and talk into the speaker. The call box system connects you to the SRC Commons 24-hour Desk, and they will alert the necessary help for you.
  • Personal Safety Although our campus is considered "safe," please keep in mind that it is located in a busy city. Although we provide you with a safe environment, you also must help. Lock your room doors, especially while you are asleep. Confront transients in your living area or get assistance if you are not comfortable confronting them yourself. Please inform the desk or an RA of any problems that require attention. Lets work together to keep our environment safe.
  • Emergencies The SRC Commons Desk is open 24 hours and can be contacted any time at (505) 277-9203 in case of an emergency. When you call, please be sure to state your name, what the problem is, and where the problem is located. You can also call the RA on duty (Nightly 7pm-7am).
  • Medical Emergencies If you are faced with a serious medical emergency that needs immediate attention, do not hesitate to call 911 for paramedics. After calling the paramedics, please call the hall front desk or the Advisor on duty inform them of the situation.
  • Fire In case of a fire, please call an Advisor or the desk. Our staff will set off alarms and call the fire department. For your own safety, please evacuate the building immediately if the alarm sounds. All fire drills and alarm checks will be posted in advance.
  • Campus Police Campus Police are available for serious security problems, theft, or other incidents that need immediate attention. They may be called at (505) 277-2241. If you do call the police, please inform the desk or the resident advisor on duty. Residence Hall Student Security Aides patrol general hall and outside areas. The Campus Escort Service may be reached at (505) 277-2241.
