Security Aide Job Description
A security aide works under the direct supervision of a Conference Coordinator with general supervision from the Conference Manager and Associate Director of Housing. An aidecompletes rounds of conference buildings, responding to safety and security needs that may arise. Works closely with campus police and other emergency personnel when needed.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Contribute to round-the-clock security by making continuous rounds through the conference buildings and surrounding areas.
- Secure conference buildings.
- Escort staff, guests, and residents to their on-campus destinations when requested.
- Enforce quiet-hour policy through group chaperones and the Coordinator and/or Resident Advisor on duty.
- Work with the Coordinator or RA on duty to handle any policy infraction that may occur (vandalism, possession of alcohol, etc.).
- Act as liaison between emergency personnel, group contacts, and the Coordinator on duty as needed.
- Test emergency call box system for transmission to the 24-hour Student Residence Center (SRC) desk.
- Report any call box or other maintenance problems to supervisor through the Security Log.
- Perform other responsibilities, as assigned by the supervisors, relating to the security of conference guests and buildings.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Needed
- Able to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
- Able to analyze and solve problems within provided guidelines.
- Able to remain calm under pressure.
- Can institute preliminary emergency protocol based on instruction.
- Possesses assertive, but not aggressive, confrontational skills.
- Self-directed, capable of working with little supervision.
- Able to work graveyard shifts and weekends, walk or stand 5 to 6 hours of a 9-hour shift, and climb stairs.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Experience
- Knowledge of Residence Hall and Conference Service policies.
- CPR or first aid certification.
- Knowledge of ten-code or basic 2-way radio communication etiquette.
- Past experience living in a residence hall system, particularly at UNM.
Conditions of Employment
- Must have a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.
- Must have been enrolled in Spring Semester and enrolled in Fall Semester or attending Summer School.
- Must comply with any other Student Employment regulations.
