On its southern edge, the main campus of UNM borders one of the most nostalgic roads in U.S. history, Route 66. In the late 1940s the Nob Hill Business Center was built making it one of the first modern shopping centers west of the Mississippi. Today Nob Hill encompasses a two mile stretch of Route 66, now known as Central Ave.
This romantic stretch of road, one of the best preserved sections of Route 66 in the state, is home to a vibrant and eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, art galleries, boutiques, music clubs, and theaters. An easy walk or bus ride from the university brings students, faculty, staff, conference attendees, and the general public together in one of Albuquerque's most charming neighborhoods.
Encourage your conference participants to stroll down Central to Nob Hill for their going-away dinners, or for a nice break at the end of a busy day. From the famous 24-hour Frontier Restaurant directly across the street from the UNM bookstore, to high-end Italian dining at Scalo's at its eastern edge, they're sure to find something to enjoy in Nob Hill.
