Description:   But, I didn't know... is often the cry of a student caught plagiarizing, but the excuse can also be attributed to many frustrated teachers. Do you know how to recognize signs of cheating, or what to do if you discover plagiarism in a student paper? Do you know how to teach students to avoid plagiarism by evaluating sources, tracking references and building original analysis? Our obligation to students does not end with a mandatory paragraph in our syllabi or stern warnings about academic dishonesty, but should extend to teaching effective research and evaluation methods. This workshop will focus on several practical issues of plagiarism through actual examples, free investigatory techniques and tools, and interactive audience participation. Topics include: Spotting Plagiarism, Tracking Down Original Sources, Official Procedures-Definitions-Consequences, Dealing With the Fallout, and most importantly, Effective Teaching Strategies to Prevent Cheating.
