Without a License----MA in Elementary Education with K-8 Licensure is a 33 credit hour program. The first 21 credit hours prepare you for a 1A licensure within the State of New Mexico. Students first complete the licensure portion of their course of study and then concentrate on completing their MA degree.
All students applying to Master's program must have taken the New Mexico Teacher Assessment of Basic Skills. This New Mexico mandated test is required for application and admission to the program. Testing information is available at http://www.nmta.nesinc.com
The other two mandated tests for licensure--New Mexico Teacher Assessment Teacher Competency and New Mexico Teacher Assessment of Content Knowledge, Elementary--are taken the second semester of student teaching.

With a License----Many applicants already have an elementary teaching license and teaching experience. These individuals are interested in furthering their professional growth by completing a Master's degree that incorporates advance study of specific areas of education including advanced study in elementary education, mathematics education, science education, and educational technology (MSET). Students will complete core content classes as determined by their advisor.
