Description:
Anthropology is the study of humanity and its works, from the most remote point in human prehistory to the cultural, linguistic, and biological diversity of the present. The UNM Anthropology Department is firmly committed to a four-field approach to anthropology and offers a strong graduate program in Archaeology, Ethnology, and Evolutionary Anthropology. Each of these three subfields contributes to an integrated picture of past and present human variation, and together they can offer important insights into many of the world's contemporary problems. Whenever possible the faculty strive to integrate distinct subfield approaches within their courses as well as in their research.
