    ENLACE (ENgaging Latino Communities for Education) - This is a community based partnership working to improve educational outcomes for Hispanic students within the Albuquerque Public Schools, CNM, and the University of New Mexico. One of the goals of the program is to lower the Hispanic dropout rate in grade K-12, CNM, and UNM.

    Since 1975, HESO has dedicated itself to promoting excellence in engineering, science, and mathematics at the University of New Mexico. We provide our members with opportunities to interact with companies and to attend various conferences that will benefit their future endeavors, in and out of college. In addition, we provide information regarding job opportunities, scholarships, mentoring, and community service.

    The Hispanic Honor Society is a group of students at UNM who wish to pursue high expectations and elevate their education by excellence in academics. The group is comprised of students who volunteer, exercise a social environment and help maintain the culture of Hispanic history. Anyone is welcome to apply and join in on the tradition of the Hispanic Honor Society.

    The year 1975 saw the birth of what started as a vision - an idea of an organization, a sisterhood that would cater to the needs of Latinas and the universal woman. Thanks to the tremendous strides made by our seventeen founding mothers, this dream was realized, and took form as the entity. Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated, the first Latina sorority in the nation.

    Lambda Theta Phi provides the Latino college student the opportunity to be part of a family with a mission. What is this mission? To cultivate a spirit of brotherhood, to value an education, to promote unity among all Latinos, to be proud of and cherish our heritage, to assert roles of leadership, to develop character, to practice chivalry, and to serve mankind. In short, to raise the social and cultural conscience of the Latin male college student.

    MALSA was founded in the 1970�s by a group of UNM law students seeking to promote the advancement of Hispanics in higher education. The students� goal was to build a support network for Hispanic law students by focusing on the academic and social interests and needs of Hispanic students.

  • Movimiento Estudiantil Chicana/o de Aztlán (MEChA) is a student organization that promotes higher education, cultura, and historia. MEChA was founded on the principles of self-determination for the liberation of our people. We believe that political involvement and education is the avenue for change in our society.

    The Peer Mentoring for Graduates of Color Program (PMGC) is a student based organization that is working to build community among historically underrepresented groups in graduate school.

    The PMGC aims to increase the retention of students of color through providing academic, social, cultural and emotional support, and to ultimately build a more diverse population within the University of New Mexico graduate and professional programs.

    The mission of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese is to promote quality teaching and research that integrate the languages, literatures, linguistics and cultures of the Spanish-and-Portuguese-speaking worlds. We share our expertise with the university community, the city of Albuquerque and the state of New Mexico.
