  • Dear ASM Students,

This is a reminder to apply for an ASM Scholarship/Fellowship. I encourage you to do this as soon as possible so you do not miss this opportunity. Last year ASM awarded approximately 150 scholarships and fellowships to ASM students. We hope to do the same this year if we receive sufficient applications.

It is always a sad situation when someone who might be eligible for an award but does not apply, resulting in the available funds not being awarded.

Please take a few moments and visit the Web site for information on applying:

If you have any questions, after viewing the information on the Web page, please email me:
    Baker@mgt.unm.edu

  • I wanted to let you know about a great opportunity here at Wake Forest where you can get a FREE education and get PAID while you're doing it. Our Dean of the Schools of Business is the former CEO of PepsiCo and very committed to diversity. He's gone around to his CEO friends, who have agreed to donate a bunch of money to pay tuition and fees, provide a stipend, and a job, to diverse students. The details are below. The problem is, response to the program has been dismal! It's hard for me to believe in the age of Obama, we can't pay black people to go to school? As a faculty member, I would be embarrassed for him to have to tell his CEO friends, "thanks so much for your donation, but unfortunately I have to give it back because we couldn't find any students who wanted it."

So, I need your help. Please contact me if you, or ANYONE you know is interested in the program. I know TO has a long reach, and I want to take advantage of it and help out as many young scholars as I can.

Don't worry about whether or not you (or they) have taken the GMAT, etc. All you need to do at this point is JUST APPLY. In business, you have to act when the opportunity is presented, and that is now.

  • The Mexican Student Association (MexSA) Scholarship has been created by Latino students for immigrant students at the University of New Mexico.

The Mexican Student Association (MexSA) was reestablished in the fall of 2008 after being absent for various years at the University of New Mexico (UNM). During its first year, this new generation of MexSA demonstrated strong leadership qualities by creating a student association that welcomed all students, community members, faculty and staff. One of MexSA’s goals is to outreach to Latino students and to provide a support system.

As the membership grew and students from around the state were given the opportunity to share their challenges, the need for financial assistance for immigrant students (the most marginalized Latino group) was then identified. Do to the fact that these students do not count with a social security number; they are limited to few or no scholarships and financial aid assistance.

Recognizing that these students have excelled academically and thrive as our future leaders and role models of our nation, the scholarship is made possible thanks to the initiative, passion and leadership of three student organizations at UNM; MexSA, Movimiento Estudiantil Chicana/o de Aztlán (MEChA) and Raza Graduate Student Association (RGSA). As MexSA expanded its partnerships and networks, other entities joined forces and made the MexSA scholarship possible to be awarded for the first time in the spring of 2009. Disclosure: Other Latino students are encouraged to apply.

The Roothbert Fund was created in 1958 by Albert and Toni Roothbert to help men and women in need of financial aid to further their education. The principal focus of The Fund is its Scholarships Program, through which it makes grants for undergraduate or graduate study at accredited colleges or universities. Scholarships may only be applied to study at an accredited institution based in the United States. The Fund seeks candidates who are "motivated by spiritual values," and works to foster fellowship among them.

The Fund is a small, nearly all-volunteer scholarship fund based in New York City, which awards yearly grants and works to foster fellowship among grant recipients. Once a year, the Fund accepts applications for grants, which include essays, transcripts and recommendations. From these written applications, the Fund identifies a group of finalists to be invited for a brief personal interview. On the basis of this interview, the Fund typically selects about 20 new scholarship recipients each year.
